Tenzin, a Singaporean married to a Tibetan,
resides and works in Dharamsala. She is a conscientious student of Buddhist
philosophy and the Tibetan language at the Library of Tibetan Works and
Archives. She graduated in 1992 from the National University of Singapore
with a B.A. in psychology, political science and philosophy. Tenzin has served in the field of public
relations, journalism, editorial and membership marketing for 12 years before
coming to Dharamsala in April 2001 to meditate and work as a volunteer
editor. Her recent position involved online information and membership
marketing at the Regional Institute of Environmental Technology. Prior to
that, Tenzin was a Public Relations Officer with the Wuxi-Singapore
Industrial Park, an overseas posting in the PRC. Her experience includes bilingual (English-Chinese) journalism, script writing and newsletter, marketing materials and Internet content provision. She has engaged in Chinese-English translation of Buddhist teachings by Gaden Tripa of the Gelug lineage as well as teachings of H.E. Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche of the Nyingma Kathog lineage. Tibetan-English translation is a new avenue in the making. Vulture's Peak Trilingual represents her first budding self-made career with her husband. Says Tenzin, "I aim to translate works that explore different frontiers of thought, both the ancient as well as the contemporary, benefiting people at varying degrees." |
Dhamchoe Thokme, a Tibetan from the region
of AmDo, Pari, a district known for its Buddhist scholars, braved the icy
winds of the Himalayans in 1996 and traversed to freedom in exile. He took
the vows of a young monk at the age of 14 and started Buddhist education
before full ordination at the age of 19, thereby entering the Gansu Buddhist
University, for monastic training. The Gansu Buddhist University resides in
the grounds of Latrang Tashi Kyil, one of Gelug's six largest
monasteries in Tibet. His teachers included the late deputy abbot, Guang
Thang Rinpoche. Guang Thang Rinpoche, well known in the Tibetan community for
his eloquent teachings and authorship of commentaries, attained high
realization whilst incarcerated for 25 years in his prison cell. After
graduating from the Gansu Buddhist University, Thokme taught Buddhist
Philosophy and Tibetan Grammar at his hometown monastery Yong Kyung
Monastery and held the post of Executive Director of the monastery for
two years. He was also the committee member of the South Su Political Council
while in Tibet. The Council was in-charge of religious and social liaison
with the local government. In India, Thokme volunteer tutorship of Tibetan language at Sara, a branch of the Buddhist Dialectic School of Dharamsala. In 1998, Thokme joined the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) of the Tibetan government-in-exile. He was the writer cum main editor of the bimonthly, Tibetan Bulletin (Chinese version) before serving as the general editor and reporter of the DIIR weekly newspaper, Tibetan Freedom from 1999 up to date. Vulture's Peak Trilingual represents his first budding self-made career with his wife. Says Thokme," I intend to give more attention to works that develops the mind and brings true happiness to the person and the family." |
